Say Hej To Scandinavian Designs
Simple Scandinavian designs are cropping up as a major trend across the outdoor living space this year. There appears to be a push towards bright light stains and raw wood over dark wood and dark stains. Additionally, straight clean lines, easy to wipe surfaces, and a minimalist approach to decor and accents are going to be a favorite to hit the patio decks for summer 2023.
Why we love this trend: It’s muted, refined, and adds an upscale look to any outdoor space without overcrowding it –– a skill outdoor furniture designs have often failed to achieve in the past.

Rattan Furniture Makes A Comeback
Always a timeless classic, rattan really saw its heyday in the 70s and is getting quite the revival with upcyclers bringing these vintage pieces back to life for both indoor and outdoor settings. Not everyone has the time or resources to find themselves a vintage outdoor rattan conversation set, but the material has become more widely accessible as furniture manufacturers and retailers have caught on to this groovy outdoor trend.
Why we love this trend: If you’re looking to create a more cozy, atmospheric look, rattan has a way of bringing that peace and love into any outdoor scene.

More Than Your Average Area Rug
We’re not saying you should throw out your light weight, brightly colored plastic rugs in favor of a more durable, artistic solution –– or maybe we are –– but that’s certainly where this trend appears to be heading. Outdoor rug textures and designs have often followed the same rules year after year but we’re seeing a diversion from that this year, and it’s great to be part of the era of the elevated outdoor rug. By incorporating rugs with more eclectic and artistic designs, and thicker materials, will add that pop of color and creativity that’s typically missing from a run of the mill outdoor space.
Why we love this trend: It’s an easy way to bring in colors if you have a neutral outdoor palette and makes for a much cozier outdoor look.

The "Pouf" Is In The Pudding
Knit, fabric, and vegan leather poufs have been a trending indoor accent piece for a while now. So, why not bring the elevated style of these ottomans into outdoor spaces? Fabric and wicker poufs are picking up steam for the outdoor designs and they create a way to save space while adding functionality and tie together the area. The options to add a touch of color, keep it muted, or create a boho sanctuary with the simple touch of a pouf is almost like magic.
Why we love this trend: Ottomans and poufs have so much variety and are easy to adapt for whatever look and feel you're trying to achieve.

Make A Statement With Ultra Modern Fire Pits
Fire pits have always been a staple in outdoor living trends, but with every year it seems we become bolder and more creative with their designs. The ultra modern fire pit looks more like a piece of art than your standard pit. In fact, this trend begs you to style your space around these fire pits for a completely modern outdoor masterpiece. Although you can choose to create a built-in fire pit, that’s not necessary to achieve this look. These modern style fire pits give off a built-in vibe but are portable and durable too. This is one of our favorite trends for summer 2023 and we can’t wait to see more great outdoor fire pit creations.
Why we love this trend: The ultra modern fire pit adds elegance to any space while creating a warm inviting focal point and conversation piece to any outdoor environment.

Don't Be Scared Of Bright Bold Colors
As we mentioned from the start, as workers continue the work remotely, finding joy in their own home is the key to their success. By adding touches of color to your patio it’s easy to feel inspired and invigorated in your home. It’s easy to get tied down by the mundane workday but with warm inviting colors right outside your door, it’s hard to let even the most grating work obligations get you down. We especially love how this trend looks in more traditional outdoor spaces, creating a bright and cozy little hideaway throughout the summer months.
Why we love this trend: It’s easy to add a couple colorful throw pillows to your patio sets and call it a day, but this trend encourages a little more creativity and play with a color palette that works.

Sustainable Furniture In Full Force
The trend we’re seeing from many outdoor living brands is choosing wood, ceramic, and biodegradable materials over plastics. An emphasis on ceramic planters over plastic liners, raw wood furniture, and sustainable materials are sure to please the eye and the environment. Plus, it really appeals to the eye to have these natural materials live in the environment they came from. Up cycling and repurposing throwaway indoor furniture for an outdoor setting is also a great way to add character to your outdoor collection without creating additional waste.
Why we love this trend: It’s easy to add a couple colorful throw pillows to your patio sets and call it a day, but this trend encourages a little more creativity and play with a color palette that works.

The Greener The Better
Our outdoor spaces are typically already full of natural greenery, from grass to trees, but this year, we’re doubling down on green and adding potted trees, ferns, succulents, plants and more to our outdoor designs. As with any indoor setting plants can fill in and add color to any space, your outdoor space is no different. Plus, producing more clean air with blossoming plants is never a bad thing.
Why we love this trend: It’s fun to get creative with the types of greenery you can add to a space –– whether it’s potted plants, succulents, trees or anything else, it’s a great way to give a unique look and feel to an outdoor scene.

Blend In And Blend Out
This might be the most popular trend we’ve seen so far this year –– a collaboration between indoor and outdoor living. In the past we’ve leaned into bringing indoor materials into our outdoor environments but this year we’re being called to bring the outdoor vibes inside as well. It’s like an indoor/outdoor mashup that creates an illusion that’s hard to pinpoint where a space really is. It’s a way to bring nature inside, freshen our air, and create one unified living space.
Why we love this trend: If you don’t get the luxury of outdoor living year round, this is a great way to ensure the positive vibes stay in your home all year round.

Make Room For Technology
This year we’re seeing a heavy emphasis on more technology entering these spaces in ways that are functional and aesthetically pleasing. Whether it’s televisions, charging ports, electric fireplaces, ceiling fans, hard wired lamps and more, the need for electricity and tech in outdoor spaces is becoming a necessity. As remote workers continue to make their living spaces both indoor and outdoor functional for work, outdoor tech is only beginning to show its true potential.
Why we love this trend: Although we believe that the outdoors are a time to be one with nature, we also believe that in order to maximize a space, and its versatility, the only way to progress is to adapt your spaces to your lifestyle, and if technology is what makes your space work for you then we can't wait to see all the innovative ways to blend tech into the outdoors.
